Norwich jeweller Damon Pye, who runs The Repair Shop in Bagleys Court in Norwich city centre, stumbled across the buried treasure in a field, but is keeping the exact location secret.
Mr Pye, 62, who has been metal detecting for 25 years, said: I was walking across the field and got an ordinary signal it could have been a cartridge cap.
The grandfather used a spade to burrow down and found the gold ring.
It looked like something out of a Christmas cracker, he said. But as soon as I picked it up I realised it was gold. I kept quiet for about half-an-hour. My wife Denise was there and we are very competitive.
I searched the area over and over again.
We have found some wonderful things over the years Roman coins, medieval coins but this is the first gold ring I have ever found.
Did you know you can upgrade your diamond ring?
for example upgrade a half carat diamond solitaire for a one carat diamond solitaire.
