"Big girls need big diamonds," the late Elizabeth Taylor once professed, an extravagant attitude she unapologetically applied not only to gemstones but also to life.
Married eight times to seven different men, Taylor lived her life to the full and answered only to herself. As one of the most prolific actresses of the Golden Era of cinema, Taylor won two Academy awards and was one of few to transition successfully from child star to screen siren.
She was more than just an utterly entrancing and beautiful movie star, though; Taylor was a staunch humanitarian and activist until her last breath. She tirelessly campaigned for Aids research and was passionately involved in the fight against the disease since it rose to prominence in the 1980s.
