L.A.-based artist Mary Anna Pomonis began painting diamonds ten years ago. Intially, she was drawn to the objects for their symbolism--"the idea that getting a big diamond from a man was a rite of passage for women fascinated me"--and soon found herself painting the precious gems frequently. "I became obsessed with learning how to paint diamonds." When she was pregnant with her daughter, she stopped, because the chemicals in the material she uses, acrylic airbrush, were potentially harmful to her baby.
