The manager of a jewellery store told a court today how he realised “something horribly sinister was afoot” seconds before he was robbed at gunpoint of £40 million of stock.
Martin Leggatt, who worked at Graff Diamonds in London, said he noticed that a customer was wearing black leather gloves at the height of summer and feared he was not a proper client, Woolwich Crown Court was told.
He described how the “ghastly scenario” unfolded in August last year and how he thanked God he was not hit by a bullet as he chased the gunmen.
Two men, whom the prosecution say were Aman Kassaye and Craig Calderwood, asked to see a two-carat ring after getting past security, which Petra Ehnar, a shop assistant, went to get, the court heard.
