After fears that London Jewellery Week would be cancelled after headline sponsor Coutts pulled out, London Jewellery Week 2010 will go ahead after a consortium of jewellery associations has pulled together and secured leftover council funding.
The withdrawal of Coutts, which has sponsored the event for its first two years, forced organiser The Communication Group to pull out of the event also.
Rather than let the event end, a group consisting of the organisers of exhibition Treasure, the British Jewellers’ Association, the Green Street Jewellers’ Association and The Goldsmiths’ Company have formed a collective and have secured funding leftover for the third year of the event from the London Development Agency.
The budget of the event has dropped from about £700,000 last year to £160,000 and because of this the group will focus its attentions on four main events: Treasure, The Goldsmiths’ Hall, the Hatton Garden Festival and the Green Street Festival.
