The stars came out for their traditional red carpet walk Sunday night, donning their best, and sometimes worst, gowns and decked with their most dazzling jewellery. The hottest trend this year, apparent on several Hollywood beauties, was the combination of diamond earrings and bracelets.
Sandra Bullock, nominated for her role as leading lady in the movie The Blind Side, wowed the crowds with a gorgeous Marchesa gown, a delicate diamond line bracelet, and a classic pair of diamond drop earrings. Simple and elegant, her classic beauty showed through, especially as she accepted her Oscar on stage. Ironically, she told reporters that, unlike most celebrities who are wooed by top jewellery designers to display their goods for the evening, her diamond earrings and bracelets were Neil Lane pieces from her own private collection.
Director of the multi award winning drama, The Hurt Locker, Kathryn Bigelow, not only surprised audiences by becoming the first ever female director to take home an Oscar, she also amazed them with her timeless beauty and taste in jewellery. She chose a simple pair of white gold diamond stud earrings and matched them with a pear and round cut diamond bracelet.
As with most Oscar night trends, expect to find a much wider selection of diamond earrings and bracelets on the market than ever before as consumers strive to get those red carpet looks for themselves. Unlike other years when the million dollar diamond pieces hung on every earlobe, wrist, and neck and wrapped themselves around every finger, the simple diamond earring and bracelet combination took home the gold this year. Thankfully, with a move from flashy and bold back to sleek and sophisticated, this year’s jewellery trends are ones that people can actually afford to copy.
