Anna Nicole Smith Lost Millions In Jewels

Anna Nicole Smith lost millions in jewels

Files recently released by the Department of Justice offer a look into the financial woes of troubled celebrity Anna Nicole Smith, woes that apparently included millions in lost jewels.

Smith, who passed away in 2007, filed for bankruptcy in 1996 after the death of her husband, J. Howard Marshall, a billionaire more than 60 years her senior.

Detailed in the government files, which includes the bankruptcy filing, is Smith's apparent loss of some $2.7 million in jewelry, according to the Associated Press. Among the pieces listed was a ring with three diamonds, including one weighing 8.45 carats, and a platinum necklace with 226 diamonds, totaling nearly 74 carats. Together, the two pieces alone were valued at nearly a half-million dollars. Their whereabouts were never determined, and it is not known if the pieces were stolen.

Also noted in her file were a Russian lynx coat appraised at $43,343.75, a necklace with a 500-carat sapphire, six potbellied pigs and a $12,000 doll collection. A safety deposit box at a New York bank held nearly $1 million in jewelry, according to the AP.
