Police say they will view CCTV footage in the hope of identifying two well-spoken women who allegedly stole rings worth more than half a million rands from a V&A Waterfront store.
On Saturday, at about 5.35pm, two women visited the Jack Friedman store, provincial police spokesman Frederick van Wyk said.
He said they "conned" the shop assistant, distracting her throughout the incident. During the ploy one suspect reached inside an open glass cabinet and took jewellery.
Van Wyk said the shop assistant had reprimanded her for not waiting for assistance.
They then told the assistant they would return to make a purchase and, as she locked the cabinet, she noticed two rings were missing. Van Wyk said the rings, an 18 carat white gold ring with a centre square diamond costing R102 500, and an 18 carat white gold ring, with a radiant cut centre diamond surrounded by other smaller diamonds, worth R510 750, were allegedly stolen.
