A £1million reward has been offered for the return of jewellery stolen in Britain’s biggest diamond heist.
The insurance company for Graffs, in London's New Bond Street, has offered the reward as detectives struggle against the underworld's wall of silence while trying to identify a gang who escaped with £40 million worth of jewellery.
The culprits, who carried out the daylight raid nine days ago, could still be in London, not risking trying to flee abroad.
However, the 43 items of jewellery encrusted with almost 1,500 diamonds could already have been sent out of the country, with the Middle East the most likely destination.
Detectives have been checking small airfields in and around London to see what private aircraft took off in the hours after the raid last week. They have also been checking nearby ports so see what boats left around the same time.
The lack of information from police informants suggests that the gang are a tight-knit bunch who may not have been involved with the authorities on serious matters before.
