Items such as diamond drop earrings are better built today than in previous years, an expert has claimed.
Russell Zelentz, co-owner of a US jewellery outlet, told firstwaternews.com that not only is this the case, but sparkling items are also holding up well with consumers during the economic downturn.
He said that during these times of hardship people are still wearing sparkling pieces, lovers of diamond bracelets may be interested to hear.
Mr Zelentz told the news provider: "They are not necessarily buying that diamond riviere, but they are wearing incredible rock crystal rings from the '30s or beautiful crystal and diamond cuffs."
He went on to say that consumers are placing emphasis on buying items which fall into the tasteful luxury bracket, rather than crossing the line into decadence.
One man who could perhaps be accused of being decedent with his jewellery purchases is Brad Pitt, after it emerged that the singer bought a Neil Lane diamond necklace for his daughter's third birthday.
