Hollywood's stars have not toned down their love for glittering pieces during the recession, according to a source.

Despite the financial chaos caused by the economic downturn, items such as diamond necklaces and diamond bracelets were out in force at numerous award ceremonies held so far this year, reports the National Jeweler Network.

Kate Winslet is pin-pointed as one star making the most of sparkling accessories, as she opted for a platinum diamond ring, diamond stud earrings and a gemstone-covered bracelet when she stepped out at the Oscars.

The Golden Globes were also full of high-quality pieces, such as Beyonce's 200-carat necklace and the sparkling jewels worn by Christina Applegate and Eva Mendes, the news provider adds.

Earlier this week, British Olympic hero Sir Chris Hoy presented his girlfriend with an engagement band.
