A pair of jewellers have had thousands of pounds worth of diamonds confiscated while travelling through JFK Airport, it has been revealed.
The professionals, who are reported to have arrived from Sierra Leone via London, were unable to provide the correct documentation for $800,000 (£548,000) of gems, which may be used for items such as gold diamond rings, diamond stud earrings and diamond bracelets.
Custom officials at the airport confiscated the rough diamonds, which weighed around 1,200-carats.
In other industry news, a major diamond expo has entered its final stages today (April 21st).
The INSTORE event has been going since Sunday (April 19th) at the Navy Pier Convention Centre, with more than 300 exhibitors registering to show visitors an array of designs and jewels that they have to offer.
