Diamonds Must Be 'worn With Pride'

People should wear items such as diamond necklaces and diamond drop earrings with confidence, it is claimed.

At a recent dinner event, Festus Mogae, the former president of Botswana, spoke about the importance of the industry to his nation, JCK magazine reports.

He says that, by purchasing gemstones, consumers are empowering his country, adding that he loves those who do so.

Mr Mogae adds: "I want to assure all of you that you must wear diamonds with confidence and pride," the publication states.

He goes on to say that the diamond industry has transformed his nation from one of the world's poorest into a middle-income region, the source concludes.

In other news, earlier this month mining firm De Beers said that it is optimistic regarding its future, despite the economic downturn.

It said that it is confident it can survive the recession, despite predictions that production will halve and the company will face "tough" trading conditions.
