A US man's proposal plan ended in chaos as he dropped a platinum diamond ring from the Brooklyn Bridge.
Don Walling presented his partner with the gemstone-covered band on the landmark's pedestrian area, but - with family members videotaping the moment - the ring fell to the road below.
He told NBC: "I watched it fall through the crack on the bridge, right between the wood planks. I kissed her, said I was sorry and told her I am going to get that ring back."
Mr Walling then jumped off the bridge, creating a suicide scare among nearby police, before searching the road for the item, lovers of platinum diamond rings may be interested to hear.
Eventually he found the band which, despite being run over, was still intact, and thankfully his girlfriend accepted the proposal.
In other news which may interest owners of platinum diamond rings, last month the Times Daily reported that a woman found a jewel-encrusted band, almost 20 years after she lost it.
