A US official has landed in hot water over a prank gone wrong involving a gold diamond ring.
John Dinda, of the Collier county sheriff's department, hid a gemstone-encrusted band worth $656,000 (£439,000) while has was on an assignment in a Fifth Avenue store.
However, staff at the outlet did not see the funny side when they thought the item, which formed part of a display of jewels worth more than $2 million, was missing, lovers of gold diamond rings may be interested to hear.
As workers looked for the band, Mr Dinda revealed that it was in fact in his possession, before handing it back.
However, after complaints about this and some comments the officer made during his time at the store he was handed a reprimand by his superiors.
In other news regarding gold diamond rings, earlier this week it was revealed that US police are still in possession of glittering pieces seized from Rihanna after an alleged altercation between the songstress and her partner Chris Brown in February.
