Thrifty brides looking to save a few pennies are opting for their diamond ring to be their something old, as more ladies opt for antique rings.
According to the Independent, budget-conscious women are increasingly opting for second-hand items for their big day, including the diamond rings.
Sam Riley, director of Wedding Matters wedding planners, says: "People are more discerning about how they spend their money now. They are saying: 'How much will it cost me? Is there another, cheaper way?'."
The newspaper reports the tradition of a diamond engagement ring having to cost between one and three months salary is also being ignored now, with second-hand rings offering "much better value".
eBay has seen an increase in the number of shoppers looking for used diamond rings, with their popularity rising by 200 per cent in the past six months.
However, Alexander Hirschfeld, director of Hirschfelds in London's Hatton Garden, tells the source there are other benefits from buying an older ring, as they are often more unique and have "a history that can't be replicated".
Last month Koorosh Daneshgar, chief executive officer for Koorosh and Valencia, a jewellery-maker, told Medill Reports that people are increasingly buying engagement rings on a tighter budget.
