Police in Australia are today searching for a thief who stole a gemstone-encrusted band worth AUS $1 million (£478,000).
The raider stole the item in broad daylight from a Melbourne jewellers, lovers of gold diamond rings may be interested to hear.
Covering his face and wielding a hammer, the man smashed through the store's window and grabbed the 9.1-carat band before fleeing yesterday (March 29th).
The incident occurred during the day as consumers browsed items such as diamond necklaces inside the shop and while people lined the street outside waiting for public transport.
Detective Al Brgoc believes that many people may have witnessed the incident and is appealing to those with information to come forward to the police.
Earlier this month, thieves stole diamond jewellery at knife-point from Steve O'Connor, co-owner of the Widnes Vikings rugby team.
Around £30,000's worth of items were taken while Mr O'Connor was at home with his wife and four-year-old child.
