Consumers are more aware of what they are choosing when buying gold diamond rings, according to a source.
Dana Levy, talking to thefashiontime.com, commented that the economic downturn has resulted in shoppers putting more thought into such purchases.
She said that during the recession she has noticed that people want to know "exactly what they are buying", with questions about the quality of items such as platinum diamond rings and diamond necklaces examples of this.
Ms Levy added: "I actually think this is a great side-effect of what is happening in our economy, because the consumer should be educated."
She went on to say to the news provider that shoppers should know that the quality of jewel-encrusted pieces is important.
Recently, Katy Hall, writing for the Columbia News Service, suggested that an increasing number of women are buying engagement bands for men.
She said that while this has been common in Europe for many years, it is now growing in popularity in the US.
