Major Jewellery Event Kicks Off

The great and the good of the world's diamond industry are meeting today to mark a major event.

Delegates, designers, jewellers and companies from all over will assemble at Baselworld 2009, lovers of items such as gold diamond rings and brilliant-cut diamond rings may be interested to hear.

Among those with a strong representation at the exhibition, which runs until April 2nd, is the Hong Kong watch sector.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council is visiting the event for the 23rd time, and it will be looking to display the country's work to European delegates and retailers.

Ralph Chow, director of product promotion for the body, said: "Baselworld offers a good overview of the capabilities of Hong Kong manufacturers and is an ideal trading platform."

Prior to the renowned expo getting into full swing the Responsible Jewellery Council held a press conference to educate visitors about its diamond certification services.
