A mother and son are being investigated by French magistrates following the theft of diamond jewellery.
Enquiries were launched after a woman and man stole a 5.5 carat diamond ring worth 635,000 euros (£560,000) from a Cartier store in Paris, a judicial source reveals.
The female examined a number of rings in the store before replacing one of these with a replica.
Martin Winckel, speaking on behalf of the International Jeweller Security, claims: "Stealing 5.5 carat rings during a sales conversation means she's extremely experienced and professional."
According to the source, a number of items of jewellery were taken, which could include oval cut diamond rings, emerald cut diamond rings or Tiffany diamonds.
Mr Winckel states that there have been a variety of similar incidents, the first of which involved the theft of a diamond ring from Frankfurt's Tiffany's.
Earlier this month, rapper Coolio had diamond necklaces stolen during an attempt to stage dive at a performance in the University of Staffordshire.
