Men who have opted for gold diamond rings for their loved-one this Valentine's Day have made the correct choice, according to the latest research.
A poll carried out by the World Gold Council looked into which type of pieces women most liked to receive on February 14th.
The study found gold is top of the wish list for many, with it being described as an "everlasting" gift by 76 per cent of respondents.
Women from the US, China, Italy, Saudi Arabia and Turkey were questioned as part of the work.
Phillip Olden, managing director of the researcher, commented that the work shows the desirability of the precious metal has increased during the economic downturn.
He added: "Our survey shows that Valentine's Day is an important occasion for receiving gold jewelry for women in different regions around the world."
