Romantic Brits who presented their loved ones with gold diamond rings this Valentine's Day may wish to take heed from an ongoing US legal case.
In Kentucky, a couple are battling it out in the courts over who should be given an engagement band, reports NBC.
Chris Mann and Angela Lipsey agreed to tie the knot and the latter was presented with an $18,000 (£12,600) diamond ring, but a judge must now decide which one of them shelved the wedding plans in order to determine who should take possession of the item.
However, it is not quite that simple as Ms Lipsey sold the band, the source adds.
She stated the she needed the money generated from the sale of the band to help cover the cost of deposits on her wedding dress and other arrangements for the big day.
Last week, a study by the Co-operative found Brits planned to spend as much as $100 on their other half for Valentine's Day.
