Classic gold and platinum diamond rings remain the favourite choices for engagement bands, according to a source.
Industry expert Harry French told the New Canaan News that items such as necklaces and earrings remain strong options for a Valentine's Day gift.
He stated while these remain consistent, trends in the ring sector tend to come and go, but classic designs are always popular.
Mr French stated brilliant-cut diamond rings with a round appearance have remained in fashion through his decades in the retail side of the sector as a jeweller.
He told the source: "One of the reasons for that is that the round brilliant can be cut to give you maximum beauty and brilliance. When you have multiple dimensions, it's much more difficult to get that brilliance out."
Earlier this week, research by the World Gold Council claimed items such as gold diamond rings are seen as "everlasting" gifts.
