Britons struggling to afford the suggested two months salary when it comes to buying gold diamond rings have been given some tips to help them propose on a budget.
Megan Scott, writing for Associated Press, commented those looking after the pennies may wish to consider white gold rather than platinum, although she acknowledges that the latter has come down in price in recent months.
The writer also suggests purchasing a band with smaller diamonds outlining a larger stone.
On this idea, Summer Krecke, deputy editor of WeddignChannel.com, told the news provider: "It's more cost-efficient. It's timeless and it's still just as beautiful."
However, Ms Krecke added those who cannot afford to buy gold diamond rings may think twice before having their engagement bands tattooed onto their fingers, as this may take a long time to heal and prove problematic in the future.
Earlier this week, a US study revealed consumers are set to spend, on average, $102.50 (£71) on their loved one this Valentine's Day.
