Jeweller David Schreibman comments it is really important to get a clear idea before heading out onto the highstreet, reports the Plain Dealer.

He advised those looking for such sparkling pieces that a quick flick through a magazine owned by their loved one could be a way of finding out the kind of thing they would like to be presented with.

Mr Schreibman told the news provider the outlet which the item is bought from is also vital.

He said: "Most people aren't familiar with diamonds, so they really need to have confidence in and trust the jeweler they're working with."
