Men around the world may be jumping for joy today as an attorney has claimed engagement bands should be returned if a relationship breaks down.
According to Margarette Macaulay, who was replying to a question sent to the Jamaica Observer, women should give gold diamond rings back if a wedding is cancelled.
She commented if a person "no longer cares enough" to spend the rest of their life with a person, they should not hang on to the glittering item of jewellery.
Ms Macaulay, who is an attorney and a women's and children's rights advocate, added: "You are withdrawing from your promise and therefore must return his ring. You can and should only keep it, if when you attempt to return it, he rejects it and tells you to keep it."
She also claimed if both parties are aware that items such as gold diamond rings have been given as an engagement band, they should be returned if the woman chooses to end the relationship.
Meanwhile, several high-profile celebrities will be hoping they will not need this advice after being given such items during the festive period, with Andrea Corr and Gisele Bundschen among those presented with jewel-encrusted pieces.
