A major diamond organisation has announced plans to expand by opening a new office.
The Rapaport Group, which is a source of information on jewel prices, will have a presence in Surat's gemstone processing centre in an effort to improve its performance in the Indian market.
Group chairman Martin Rapaport, told the Hindu Business Line: "Our objective is to do business in India. Surat is a huge cutting centre and can absorb all kinds of diamond."
The firm added to the news provider that it believes the future of the sector lies in trading rather than manufacturing, it may interest investor's in items such as gold diamond rings and diamond bracelets to learn.
In related news, last month the International Diamonds Laboratory opened a site in the Italian city of Valenza.
