A 478-carat white diamond is to make an appearance in Dubai later this week.

In news which may interest fans of diamond jewellery, the stone will be shown by Letseng Diamonds and the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC)at the Atlantis Hotel in Palm Jumeirah on November 8th.

The diamond, which was found at the Letseng Mine in Lesotho, is the largest to be received in the Middle East and the third largest rough diamond this century.

In addition, the owners claim it is the 20th largest rough diamond to be recovered in recorded history.

The showing of the stone will be the centrepeice of the first Middle East China Diamond and Jewellery Summit which is being held at the hotel.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman of the DMCC and host of the event, commented: "It is significant and truly appropriate that a diamond of this stature should make its first public appearance in Dubai - the fastest growing hub for diamond trade."

In recent diamond jewellery news, a 35.56-carat blue diamond which was once owned by the Infanta Margarita Teresa is to be auctioned in December.
