Arguments between separated couples over who should keep an engagement ring are more likely to end with the man taking possession of the item, according to a source.
Gold and platinum diamond rings can be the cause of dispute between ex-partners after a split, reports the Samara James blog.
The news source states "it is natural" that a man will assume they are entitled to reclaim an engagement band due to the amount of the money they have spent on the item.
According to the blog: "Recent court rulings seem to veer that way [towards men] and more and more verdicts are in favour of the one who paid for the ring."
The article goes on to comment both parties have a valid claim for the possession of gold diamond rings, as while the man paid for the engagement band, he did give it to the woman.
Recently, Joanna Grossman, a law professor for Hofstra University, claimed ownership of gold or platinum diamond rings is a common cause of court cases between separated partners, reported the New York Times.
