Jewellery stores in India are reporting increasing levels of interest in diamond items, according to a source.
According to the Telegraph India, consumers are buying jewel-encrusted pieces in honour of Dhanvantari, the physician of the gods.
The news provider states diamond necklaces are proving particularly popular, while items such as diamond bangles and earrings are also selling well.
Anirban Ghosh, floor manager of Bistupu's Kuldip and Sons, tells the publication jewellery is something buyers can "treasure throughout their life".
He adds: "Although gold is still in demand since the metal is considered auspicious, diamonds have also caught the fancy of people this time."
The news source reports diamond outlets in the country are witnessing "huge sales" of diamond-encrusted pieces.
Last month, Karim Merchant, chief executive officer of Pure Gold Jewellers, claimed the popularity of jewellery such as gold diamond rings in Dubai has increased, with Gulf News reporting a 60 per cent year-on-year rise in sales of the gemstones.
