Diamonds Are 'ultimate Glitz'

Diamonds are the "ultimate in glitz" which leave consumers "besotted", it is claimed.

The Independent reports the jewels, which are used in items such as oval-cut diamond rings and platinum diamond rings, leave "mankind besotted with their beauty".

A magical quality is also seen as being held within many diamonds, dating back as far as the time of Greek philosopher Plato.

The newspaper claims diamonds are popular with celebrities, citing Kiera Knightly and Jade Jagger as among the stars seen wearing jewellery featuring the stone.

Elizabeth Taylor is noted as another lover of the gem, having owned a 69-carat pear-shape diamond ring, named the Taylor-Burton, before selling the item for $5 million (£2.5 million) in 1978, the publication adds.

Meanwhile, during the last week stars such as Brooke Shields, Holly Hunter, Zhang Ziyi and Megan Fox have all been seen wearing jewellery such as diamond drop earrings, diamond rings and diamond bracelets.
