A princess cut diamond ring was reason enough for some commentators to assert that singer Rihanna is engaged.

Reports claim that the woman responsible for last summer's big hit Umbrella could be getting married to Chris Brown, after she was spotted wearing a princess cut diamond ring recently.

Entertainmentwise notes that Brown and Rihanna - who hails from Barbados - have denied they are together, despite being spotted kissing and cuddling in public.

"And now Rihanna has fuelled rumours that they are to walk down the aisle after she was snapped sporting a ring on her left hand," the report asserts.

A recent article in the Telegraph testified to the popularity of platinum diamond rings for weddings, following mining company Xstrata's bid for Lonmin.

The publication noted that the metal's tarnish-resistant nature is persuading a growing number of couples to choose items like platinum diamond rings for their big day.
