Michelle Obama wore diamond stud earrings for her keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention.
According to the Canadian Press, Barack Obama's wife has been praised by style experts for her choice of outfit at the convention, wearing an "ocean blue dress" with a brooch and diamond stud earrings.
Treena Lombardo, fashion market director with W magazine, contrasted her dress sense with that of previous first ladies such as Pat Nixon and Nancy Reagan, who preferred either jewellery overload or a plain look.
Maria Pinto, who designed Ms Obama's dress, described her style as "timeless".
"But what I love most is that at the foundation of this fabulous woman is an unbelievable brilliance and eloquence coupled by the grace and beauty of a dancer," she added.
In his speech accepting the Democratic nomination, Barack Obama commented that American politics should move away from "the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other's character and patriotism".
