Diamond-clad women have always been influential, according to a new article.
From Napoleon's Josephine to Grace Kelly, wearing diamond drop earrings, an emerald cut diamond ring or a diamond necklace has always signified power and style, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
A recent exhibition at Belgium's Antewerp Diamond Centre paid homage to the magnetic pull of the stones, displaying the Cartier bracelets of Gloria Swanson, the emerald cut diamond ring of Grace Kelly and the diamond tiara worn by Madonna on her wedding day.
Jennie Baeten, event manager of the exhibition, told the news provider: "Women who wore diamonds influenced the fashion and the spirit of the times."
"They were trendsetters and they created new styles. We chose the name diva because it comes from the word divine," she added.
At her wedding to Prince Rainer III in 1956, Grace Kelly wore a diamond ring, while a diamond necklace was among the gifts given to the royal couple by the people of Monaco, according to the BBC.
