Diamond-studded Hirst Works Go Under The Hammer

Diamond-studded Hirst works go under the hammer

Published on 30/07/08

A pair of works by Damien Hirst made of gold-plated steel and studded with diamonds are up for auction at Sotheby's in September.

In news that may interest aficionados of diamond necklaces or diamond bracelets, the works are among a set of pieces by the British artist going under the hammer later this year, collectively expected to raise £65 million.

Entitled Memories of/Moments With You and Unknown Pleasures, the works are adorned with thousands of manufactured industrial diamonds, reports the Guardian.

Other items up for auction include The Golden Calf, with solid 18-carat hoofs, horns and a disc on its head, as well as The Immaculate Heart, a bull's heart pierced with a dagger in formaldehyde.

In 2007, Hirst sold another item that may have drawn the attention of avid diamond necklace collectors - a platinum and diamond cast of a human skull.

Often associated with the Young British Artists scene, Hirst sold a 14-foot tiger shark immersed in formaldehyde in 2004.
