New fathers are showing their appreciation for the women who birthed their child by giving them diamond stud earrings, a new report reveals.

According to the Detroit News, jewellery is emerging as a perfect way of showing women that their morning sickness and hours of labour did not go unnoticed.

The report cites a survey by BabyCenter.com, which found that 55 per cent of new mothers want a 'push present', while 38 per cent received one after the birth of their child.

Country music star Keith Urban may be aware of the trend, intending to give wife Nicole Kidman a ring to celebrate the recent birth of their daughter, My Park Magazine revealed.

John Ahee, vice-president of Edmund T Ahee Jewellers, told the publication that diamond stud earrings are the most popular presents for new mothers.

Sergio Basmajian, president of Metals In Time, also testified to the popularity of the accessories.

He told the newspaper: "Typical gifts are diamond earrings, a diamond bracelet or a right-hand ring. It's something she's going to wear and have fun with, while also remembering that day."
