Adults are not the only people who look great in diamond necklaces, a new report asserts.

Parents are increasingly purchasing accessories for their babies, reports the National Jewellery Network.

Christenings, first birthdays and inaugural ear piercings are ideal occasions to treat a young family member to a gold diamond ring, a diamond necklace or diamond stud earrings, the report suggests.

Another innovative gift idea for babies could be starter charm bracelets, Karen Filbert, senior account manager with Rembrandt Charms, told the organisation.

"The first charm would be a birth certificate, an initial or an angel," she suggested, adding that this is a present that the "gift-giver can keep giving" as more charms are added.

The quality of a heart shape diamond ring grows even more important when the wearer is a child, the report adds.

Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman's partner Keith Urban planned to present her with a gold ring during the delivery of their new baby, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban.
