Donated Diamond Ring Raises Charity Funds

A diamond ring donated to a fire fighting department in California has been sold for $1,500, it has emerged.

The Sacramento Bee reports that the emerald-cut diamond jewellery design was tossed into a firefighter's boot on March 29th at the Fill the Boot for Burns campaign in Sacramento.

And the money from the sale of the one-third carat diamond ring was donated to the Firefighters Burn Institute, a local non-profit organisation that assists victims of burns and gives funding to research into burn treatment.

The organisation has pledged that a new Regional Burn Centre will open in 2010 at the city's UC David Medical Centre.

Fundraiser tally organiser Michelle Wade told the news provider she was appreciative of the donor and the buyer, as the sale boosted the campaign to over $32,000.

"We're just grateful for both," Ms Wade told the news provider.

A report published this week by DiamondRingBuyer.net suggested that diamond rings were the most popular engagement jewellery.
