Diana's Necklace Gift Up For Auction

A necklace given by Princess Diana to her medium is being put up for auction next month.

The sale is being conducted by Christie's in South Kensington, with a proportion of the proceeds to be donated to hospices, reports the Press Association.

Made of 18-carat gold, the necklace is expected to fetch up to $6,000 (£3,000), the auction house said.

Rita Rogers, the medium who is putting the necklace up for auction, said that the princess was not sentimental about possessions.

However, she expressed her reluctance to sell the gold necklace, which comes with a note handwritten by Diana.

Dated weeks before the princess died, it reads: "Dearest Rita, this necklace was made for you and comes with so much love to a very special lady with an extraordinary gift. From x Diana x."

Diana's engagement to Prince Charles was symbolised by a gold diamond ring, with a single sapphire at its centre.
