Blue Diamond Ring Sells For Millions At Auction

A blue diamond weighing 13.39 carats set in a ring was sold for 9.23 million Swiss francs (£4.61 million) this week, auction house Christie's has confirmed.

Reuters reports that the ring, which also features tiny pink diamonds, drew the most money at the Geneva auction on Wednesday.

Other prominent jewellery deals included a flawless heart shape diamond ring, which weighed some 21.4 carats and fetched just under 3.3 million Swiss francs.

Meanwhile, a diamond necklace, set with large emeralds and natural pearls, was sold for 5.87 million Swiss francs and the matching brooch fetch 4.6 million Swiss francs, it was revealed.

"The jewellery sale saw extremely strong prices for colourless and coloured diamonds. This was an ideal way to celebrate our 40th anniversary in Switzerland," commented Eric Valdieu, head of Christie's' Swiss jewellery department.

Christie's was founded in 1766 by James Christie and the auction house now has 85 offices in 43 countries.
