Published : 25/03/09 A leading auction house has revealed that more than $1.7 million (£1.16 million) were raised at its latest fine jewellery sale. Skinner sold items such as gemstone-covered accessories and gold diamond rings. The star attraction was an Art Deco, diamond, jadeite, onyx and coral brooch, which fetched $71,100. Gloria Lieberman, director of fine jewellery for the auction house, commented that the event proved that despite the economic downturn, items such as gold diamond rings and jewel-encrusted necklaces remain a popular investment for consumers. She added: "Buyers and consignors alike continue to come to Skinner for unique jewelry, and recognise the lasting value intrinsic in these rare pieces purchased at auction." In related news, next month Christie's will hold a sale featuring several dazzling pieces. One such item that will do under the hammer on April 22nd is a pear-shaped 30.02-carat diamond ring which is valued at between $1.4 and $1.8 million (£950,000 and £1.2 million).
