An appeal is underway to find a diamond ring given to a woman to mark her battle with cancer, according to a source.

The jewel-encrusted art deco band was stolen when thieves broke into a London flat earlier this month, reports the Camden New Journal.

Katie Spriggs told the newspaper of the sentimental value attached to the item, it may interest owners of gold diamond rings to learn.

She said: "The ring was given to my grandmother by my grandfather in 1943, and it was worn by her for over 50 years."

Ms Spriggs added the gemstone band was presented to her on the day she received the news she had breast cancer, a disease she has since beaten.

She went on to describe the ring as an "icon of her heritage" which represented a good luck charm to the Somers Town resident, the news provider went on to say.

In recent news regarding stolen gold diamond rings, a US policewoman has been fired after claims she stole an engagement band given to her by a former partner.ADNFCR-1633-ID-18889980-ADNFCR
