Black diamond rings could be the next must-have item for brides-to-be, according to a source.

In news which may interest those looking for gold diamond rings, the latest issue of Brides magazine claims the gothic gems are the current "in thing", reports Modern Jeweler.

According to the publication, " white diamonds may delight but black is where it's at this season".

The source claims Carmen Electra's two-carat black diamond engagement ring is a possible driving force behind the increasing popularity of the items.

A Karen Karch designed rose-cut ring is used as a prime example of a black diamond band by the publication.

The article states brides-to-be looking for a break from the traditional gold and platinum diamond rings may wish to use a darker stone to symbolise their engagement.
