An American group of consumers have offered an alternative for those looking to buy items of jewellery.
Jonell McLain could not afford the $37,000 (£20,730) price tag for a diamond necklace, so she joined up with eleven other women and formed a syndicate, reports thestar.com.
In news which may interest those wishing to buy diamond necklaces, the group purchased the item and now share use of the piece.
Ms McLain told the source she was "amazed" the first time she saw the necklace and decided to operate the sharing scheme in order to "demystify ownership".
She added: "I called some people who I thought might be interested in sharing a piece of jewellery. I went to the store and said I'm offering $12,000, but we're going to do something novel, something that makes a difference in the community."
Meanwhile, there have been numerous celebrities, such as Anna Paquin, Meg Ryan and Debra Messing, spotted in items such as diamond necklaces and diamond stud earrings in recent weeks as they attend premieres and award shows.
