Period diamond jewellery is rising in popularity with many pieces being considered items of art and collected, according to a source.
MSN.com has revealed over the last ten years an increase has been seen in the number of people buying period items.
David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby's Jewellery in Europe and the Middle East, told the source: "Great examples of period jewellery are now considered fine examples of art with prices that are multiples of the intrinsic value of the jewels."
According to the expert, India has led this revival with the country's style influencing designs across Europe. He added: "There has been a cross flow of jewels and styles."
Mr Bennett stated those considering buying period diamond jewellery should educate themselves in the area to ensure they get quality and a "rich history".
The British Jewellers' Association has recently revealed a guide to buying diamonds on its website, which it says is an "invaluable asset" to those purchasing items.
