Serena Williams' appearance at Wimbledon in diamond drop earrings was just one example of the sport's love affair with diamonds, according to a new blog post.
Jewellery Insider reports that Asia Muhammed, the Las Vegas player from the sports academy run by Andre Agassi, adorned her tennis racquet with diamonds.
The pink piece of sports equipment was decorated with two diamond letter As, with the pave set gemstones weighing one carat and set above the player's grip.
Jeweller Michael E Minden, who was responsible for the luxurious racquet, said it was the first time he has put diamonds on a piece of athletic equipment.
"However, we came up with a special process to affix it to the racquet, with a special technology to transfer the letters to a new racquet when Asia wears out the first one," he explained.
A report published in the Deccan Herald in July suggested that diamond drop earrings can be worn casually as well as with an evening dress.
