Platinum diamond rings 'increasingly popular for weddings'
Wedding and engagement bands made from platinum are emerging as one of the most popular choices for couples planning to get hitched, a new report notes.
According to the Telegraph, pieces such as platinum diamond rings are wooing engaged couples due to their unique attractions.
Commenting on mining firm Xstrata's recent bid for Lonmin, the newspaper explores a number of uses for platinum - a key one of which is the development of platinum diamond rings, the report notes.
"The precious metal is attractive because it is rare and tarnish-resistant (unlike gold) and is increasingly chosen by couples for engagement and wedding rings," states the article.
Other uses for platinum noted in the report included Damien Hirst's diamond-encrusted platinum skull, sold to investors for $100 million (£50 million) and Ginza Tanaka's diamond and platinum handbag, which fetched £1 million.
Meanwhile, Shayne Dahl Lamas has expressed her desire to keep the platinum diamond ring given to her by Matt Grant on reality TV show The Bachelor, despite the couple's subsequent split.
