The Australian female kayaking team hope to paddle to glory at the Olympics in Beijing this year thanks to one lucky item.
Team leader Chantal Meek wore her new diamond engagement ring for the first time this week and the team produced one of their best races so far, coming third after Germany and Poland.
Meek and fiance Mark Minchin designed the ring together after he proposed before she left for the games.
Commenting on the team and its win, she said: "We're a typical bunch of girls and we all get so excited with something like that. I don't typically wear jewellery. We decided it's our lucky charm and we're running with it."
Earlier this month, Katrin Magnussen, senior fashion analyst at Mintel, said that the fact jewellery is often bought for sentimental reasons means consumer appetite for diamond drop earrings, gold diamond rings and similar items should stay strong even in the current economic climate.
