Could the platinum diamond ring proposal be revamped?
5th Aug 2008
Platinum diamond rings are conventionally presented by a man to a woman in a proposal - but one celebrity couple has eschewed this convention, a jewellery blog has observed.
Heather Matarazzo, the US actress who starred in Todd Solondz's Welcome to the Dollhouse, is engaged to her musician partner Caroline Murphy, with both parties getting down on one knee to pop the question and present a ring to the other.
A new post on Jewellery Insider entitled Two Diamond Engagement Rings, One Couple! ponders what this new trend means for the traditional proposal with a platinum diamond ring or other design, which may soon be worn on the right hand instead of the left.
"This ritual may soon be recast and revamped by a bevy of gay couples who are rewriting the way a proposal goes down," the post suggests.
Matarazzo won an Independent Spirit Award for her role in Welcome to the Dollhouse, which appeared in 1997.
