New Yorker digs through trash for diamond stud earrings

A jeweller from New York was so determined to find the diamond stud earrings she accidentally threw away that she recently sorted through a lorry-load of rubbish to win them back.
Haya Sharon pronounced the rediscovery of her £10,000 diamond stud earrings "a miracle" after she, her husband and the dustmen of New York trawled the city's trash to find them.
Ms Sharon left the accessories in a jar of cleaning solution, which was then accidentally discarded by an employee at her store.
The diamond stud earrings, which were an anniversary gift from the owner's husband, were apparently not the first time a valuable discovery has been made in the rubbish tips of Manhattan.
Keith Mellis, a spokesperson for the Fresh Kills landfill - the last stop for trash before it is shipped out of the state and the site of Ms Sharon's discovery - said that engagement rings have been reunited with their owners at the spot in the past, reports Sky News.
Diamond stud earrings were described as an ideal present for a new mother in the Detroit News recently.
